The Winner  Race 2 is our regional to national level racing package.  The Black Gold spars and premium racing sails that are standard on the  on the Race 2 give you the very best equipment where it makes the most difference.  Upgrade the just the blades and you're at the International level Race 3.  This package was specked out to give maximum racing performance at a reasonable price.  It's also ideal for heavy regional level sailors (who need a stiffer spar than the Silver) and for lighter weight national level sailors.  

The Black Gold spar set was conceived in a meeting of the top youth sailing experts in the world.  Locked away for an entire weekend, these experts examined and debated the features of the best spars available at the time.  This is what they came up with:

Black hard anodized 7075 2.2 mm mast, a choice of 3 black anodized booms and a black anodized 7075 sprit. All black fittings, newly designed sprit ends, hard anodized cleats, a sprit chafe guard, improved captive eye straps on the boom, a halyard cleat with becket, a bead to prevent loss of hook-in block. Zero stretch, zero creep, black, Vectran line package from Marlow and more.

To improve the stiffness back in December 1999 the wall thickness of the 7075 Black Gold mast tube was increased from 2 to 2.2 mm. This created a much stiffer spar.

The Ø 45 x 2.2 mm mast and Ø 27 x 1.5 mm sprit are made of the highest grade aluminum available. (7075 T6 Aerospace spec. alloy) and the super stiff BLACK GOLD mast and sprit can be used with a choice of booms :

The 32 mm BLACKLITE boom

A bendy boom, which comes with a bridle, will flatten and depower the sail which enables the lightweight sailor to go faster in more wind.

The 40 mm BLACKGOLD boom

A stiff and lightweight boom, which comes with a bridle and suitable for the majority of sailors.

The 55 mm BLACKMAX boom

The ultra stiff (and yet lightweight) boom can be used without a bridle. This enables the larger sailor to jump across the boat and not too far aft while tacking.

 

All booms are made from high grade, tempered tube. Fitted with captive eye straps, black nylon in- and outboard end fittings, outhaul cleat, 4 mm Vectran outhaul, 6 mm Vectran/wire, vang and outhaul trim gauge.

For years these were the standard racing foils for top sailors and now they are now standard equipment on the Winner Upgraded Club, Race 1 and Race 2.  These blades are tough and durable and will be more than sufficient for any racing at the local and regional level.  Even at the National level, sailors under 90 lbs will not require any other blade set to be fully competitive.

Constructed of fiber reinforced polyester around a core of closed cell PVC foam.  The rudder is fairly swept for maximum control and helm pressure.
